The Riot Dumpster
Feb. 2nd, 2011 04:43 pmWednesdays are consistently easy days for me. I only have Chinese lecture and the charming class known to most as Statistics for Complete Assholes. And by most I mean me. One thing that struck me today was the absolute panic I felt as I mailed a letter to the organization that's handling my Chinese work visa. I could count the number of things I've physically mailed in my life using my two hands and maybe a foot. Using a mailbox is terrifying. What if the mailman doesn't see my letter at the bottom of the box? What if it gets lost? What if they can't read the address?
This is how badly technology has obliterated my sense of interpersonal trust. I weep for the children of America today who get iPhones at the age of 8.
Unfortunately, I really do anything interesting today except freak out about mailing a letter. I visited the library and picked up Primer and The Warriors, two movies that I've seen recently but liked so much that I'm looking forward to sharing with my friends for two different reasons. I was way too tired to watch Primer the first time I saw it. It's a really good film, but do not start watching it at midnight. On the other hand, The Warriors is the dopest movie I've seen all year. Don't even watch the trailer I posted, stop whatever you're doing get your hands on that movie and watch it. The fact that I'm not watching it right now is a testament to my incredible self-control.
That is a dumpster. No dumpster has ever been so dear to my heart. I've seen someone set this dumpster on fire twice-once when the Steelers won their last Super Bowl and again when the G-20 turned Oakland into something not unlike a warzone. I've salvaged some lovely things from this dumpster, most notably the materials I used for my last Guy Fawkes effigy. For a while, I think had a toaster that came from this dumpster too. I think I've exhausted my dumpster-related memories, so I guess I'll see you tomorrow.
